We were approached by Ben Godfrey, Facilities Manager at Touchlight, to deliver workplace EV charging at their Hampton facility. Several staff members had already purchased electric vehicles or were looking to take advantage of the Benefit in Kind tax scheme, and the company needed charging infrastructure to support them. Touchlight operates from a listed former Thames Water waterhouse. The building is a distinctive structure with heritage brickwork and industrial architecture that backs onto a Thames Water reservoir. The site presented a challenge that went beyond standard workplace charging: any infrastructure had to complement the building's character, last a minimum of ten years, and serve a sensitive biotech environment. The company wanted a solution that could serve drivers immediately but scale to cover all 25 parking bays as more staff made the switch. Previous quotes had not addressed the aesthetic or longevity requirements to the standard the building demanded.
Touchlight operates from a listed former Thames Water waterhouse in Hampton. The building's character comes from exposed brickwork and industrial architecture that has been carefully preserved. Any EV charging infrastructure needed to complement this aesthetic, not detract from it. Standard armoured cable running between charge points would have left visible cabling looping in and out of each bay. For a building where the visual appearance had been maintained over decades, that approach was not acceptable. The infrastructure needed to look like it belonged, using materials and methods that matched the industrial heritage of the site.
The entire site had recently undergone multi-million pound groundworks and surface upgrades. Cutting into newly finished surfaces to install EV charging infrastructure risked undoing work that had only just been completed. The main car park required cable trenching and containment runs along the perimeter wall, while the gatehouse area needed separate underground ducting for a pedestal charger at bays 25 to 27. Every metre of reinstatement had to be invisible once complete. The expectation was clear: it should look like we had never been there. With the scale of recent investment in the site, impeccable workmanship was non-negotiable.
Touchlight is a biotech company at the forefront of genetic medicine. Staff were already pushing for EV charging to take advantage of the Benefit in Kind tax scheme, which makes electric company cars significantly cheaper to run than petrol or diesel equivalents. The infrastructure needed to serve the seven drivers who wanted charging immediately while preparing all 25 bays for future activation. With staff actively exploring salary sacrifice schemes and company car options, demand was expected to grow quickly. Any solution had to balance immediate demand with long-term scalability, without requiring a second installation when more staff made the switch.

We designed the cable routing using steel galvanised conduit and tray along the perimeter wall of the main building, covering bays 1 to 24. The conduit gives a clean, industrial finish that complements the waterhouse building's brickwork and exposed architecture. We made use of the large concrete walls separating the building from the adjacent Thames Water reservoir as a natural routing surface. This avoided the need for freestanding cable management and kept the infrastructure tight to existing structures. The result is a cable system that looks deliberate and permanent, not retrofitted. The steel galvanised finish is built to last 10 years minimum and matches the industrial character of the listed building.
For the gatehouse area, we installed underground ducting to connect bays 25 to 27 with a separate distribution board in the security house. A pedestal-mounted Easee charger serves this section of the car park independently from the main building run. Across the whole site, we matched surface reinstatement to the recently completed upgrades, using the same materials and finishes. The groundworks were completed without disrupting daily operations or security access. Every surface was restored to the standard set by the multi-million pound works that had preceded our installation. The pedestal sits cleanly within the existing landscape.
We installed 7 active Easee 22kW chargers and terminated, tested, and commissioned 18 Easee Ready points across the remaining bays. Any future-ready bay can be activated with a charger unit without re-cabling or additional groundworks. Staff access charging via RFID card or the app, and our management platform handles all billing automatically. Each session is logged, costed per kWh, and charged to the individual driver. This supports the Benefit in Kind tax advantage that was driving staff interest in switching to electric vehicles. The platform gives the facilities team full visibility of usage, costs, and charging patterns without manual admin.

The £14,950 Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets reduced the upfront investment significantly. The installation was completed in ten business days with no disruption to Touchlight's biotech operations. The future-ready design means activating additional chargers requires only the charger unit itself, with no repeat groundworks or cabling.
Staff who were already interested in the Benefit in Kind tax advantage on electric vehicles now have charging available at work. The management platform handles billing automatically, so the facilities team has no admin burden. Usage data shows healthy uptake, and the availability of on site charging is encouraging more staff to consider making the switch.
