Our honest take on the myenergi Zappi GLO.

The original Zappi earned its place on thousands of British walls by doing something nothing else did: charging the car properly from solar. Its one honest weakness was the look. The GLO fixes that. Slimmer, cleaner, available in white or black, and far easier to place on a visible wall.

The solar brain is unchanged where it counts. Surplus generation goes into the car rather than back to the grid, and the myenergi app manages the whole ecosystem, including eddi water heating if you have one.

The RFID tap to charge is a genuinely useful addition, especially for driveways shared with visitors or trades. This is the charger we now specify for solar homes that also care how the wall looks.

What is the difference between the Zappi GLO and the Zappi V2?

Same solar first charging brain, new body. The GLO is slimmer, comes in white or black, and adds RFID tap to charge access. The V2 remains the proven classic with its on charger display and years of track record. Solar performance is equivalent, so the choice is mostly about looks and budget.

Does the Zappi GLO work without solar panels?

Yes. It charges from the grid like any smart charger and works with Intelligent Octopus Go and OVO Charge Anytime. Solar is its speciality, not a requirement, and it is ready if you add panels later.

Is the Zappi GLO tethered or untethered?

Both variants exist. The tethered version has its own cable ready on the wall; the untethered version has a universal Type 2 socket. We confirm which suits your parking and cars at the survey.

How does the RFID access on the Zappi GLO work?

You tap a keycard on the charger to authorise charging. Up to 126 cards can be registered per charger, so households, visitors and trades can each have their own. It stops anyone else plugging in on an open driveway.
