Payment Methods
App based billing. Employees download the charger management app, register their details, and add a payment method. The app starts and stops charging sessions, tracks energy used, and processes payments automatically. No manual invoicing needed.
RFID card billing. Each employee gets an RFID card linked to their account. They tap the card to start a session. The platform logs usage and processes payment the same way as app based billing. Some staff prefer this because it does not require a phone.
Payroll deduction. Monthly charging costs are calculated by the platform and sent to your finance team as a reconciliation report. The amount is deducted directly from salary. This works well for larger businesses that want a clean administrative process.

Setting the Right Rate
Most businesses charge staff at cost recovery, typically 25p to 40p per kWh. This covers the wholesale electricity cost plus a small margin for maintenance and platform fees. It is significantly cheaper than public charging networks, which makes it a genuine employee benefit even when not offered free.
Some businesses offer free charging as an employee perk. Under current HMRC rules, free workplace charging is not a taxable benefit, so nothing appears on the P11D. This is the simplest model but it does cost the business roughly £200 to £500 per EV driver per year in electricity.
A combined model also works. Offer a free monthly allowance, say the first 100 kWh, and charge per kWh above that threshold. The platform handles the calculation automatically.
Metering and Compliance
MID approved metering is a legal requirement if you charge anyone for electricity by the kWh. MID stands for Measuring Instruments Directive. It is the standard that governs the accuracy of energy meters used for commercial billing in the UK.
