How Access Control Works
Each user group gets different permissions through the charging platform. Employees register via an app or receive an RFID card during onboarding. Visitors can be given temporary app access or a guest RFID card at reception.
You decide the rules. Staff might have unrestricted access during working hours. Visitors might be limited to specific chargers or time slots. Contractors on long term projects can get their own access profile with separate billing.
Open access is possible but less common. Most businesses prefer to restrict chargers to registered users. This prevents unauthorised use and gives you clear data on who is charging and when.

Pricing for Different Users
The management platform supports multiple pricing tiers running simultaneously. A typical setup looks like this. Staff charge at 25p to 35p per kWh, which covers the electricity cost. Visitors and contractors pay 35p to 55p per kWh, closer to public charging rates.
Some businesses offer free charging to all users as a hospitality gesture or employee benefit. Others set a monthly free allowance for staff and charge per kWh above that threshold. The platform handles every combination without any manual invoicing.
Private Chargers vs Public Regulations
Workplace chargers restricted to staff, visitors, and contractors remain private. They are not subject to the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023, which require contactless payment on any charger over 8kW, transparent pricing displays, and open access. If your chargers are only available to people with a connection to your business, these public regulations do not apply.
Visitor charging also does not affect Workplace Charging Scheme eligibility. The grant funds the installation regardless of whether you allow visitors to use the chargers.
