Why Is My EO Charger Not Working?

TL;DR

Most EO chargers that stop working have not failed. The usual causes are a tripped breaker or isolator, a latched fault code that clears when the cable is removed, a schedule in the car or the app, or a lost Wi-Fi link that only affects the app. One real fault is a charger that switches off part way through every charge, which on the units we see is firmware. Pulsing blue means powered and not signalling a fault.

If you have checked the light and the breaker and it is still not charging, that is where our EV charger repair service comes in. Or call 020 7101 4206.

Start with the light, not the app

Since EO switched off the Smart Home app for the Mini Pro 2 in November 2025, and moved the Mini Pro 3 to the ev.energy app, a lot of “not working” reports are really “the app cannot see it”. Those are different problems. The light on the front of the unit tells you which you have.

LightWhat it means
Pulsing bluePowered, ready, and not signalling a fault. If the car is plugged in and nothing happens, look at the car and the cable first
Pulsing greenCable in, talking to the car. The car has not accepted the charge yet
Solid greenCharging
Solid yellowPaused on purpose by a schedule, the pause button or load management
Anything redA fault. On the Mini Pro and Mini Pro 2 the number of flashes is a code. On the Mini Pro 3 you get solid or pulsing red
No lightNo power reaching the unit

The full colour tables are on our page on what the lights on an EO Mini Pro 2 and Mini Pro 3 mean, and every red code is on what a red light on an EO Mini Pro means.

The five common causes

A tripped breaker or knocked isolator. The Mini Pro range sits on its own breaker and usually has a rotary isolator nearby. Both get switched off by accident. If there is no light, look there first. If it trips again straight away, stop and call an engineer, because a device that keeps tripping is protecting you from something.

A latched fault code. EO’s guides are explicit that once a fault is detected the red code stays on the LED until the end of the charging session, even if the fault has already cleared. So a charger can be showing red for a problem that has gone. Unplug the cable and see whether the light returns to pulsing blue. If it does, try again. If the same code comes straight back, the fault is live.

A schedule you forgot about. For a Mini Pro 2, any schedule that lived in the EO app was cleared in November 2025, but the car may still have its own timer, and some suppliers set one through their app. For a Mini Pro 3, the ev.energy app can hold a schedule too. Solid yellow means “paused by design”, not broken.

A charger that switches itself off part way through a charge. This is the one we see most on EO units at the moment. The session starts normally, runs for anything from ten minutes to an hour, then stops, and it happens with every car and every cable. On the sites we look after the diagnosis has come back as firmware rather than the hardware or the installation. A reset does not cure it, and we have not been able to find a route to a firmware fix. If your charger does this repeatedly, it is not you and it is not the car.

A lost connection. Only matters for the app and the smart features. The Mini Pro 3 needs a Wi-Fi signal that ev.energy says should be above about 20 per cent at the charger. If the app shows offline but the light is pulsing blue, the charger will still charge when you plug in.

What to try before you call anyone

  1. Read the light and match it to the list above.
  2. Unplug the cable from the car and the charger. Wait for the light to settle.
  3. Switch the charger off at its own breaker on the fuse board (or the isolator switch next to it), wait thirty seconds, and switch it back on. EO’s own advice for the Mini Pro 2 is to do this at the isolator, then allow three to five minutes for the unit to restart.
  4. Check the car for a departure time or a charge limit, and clear it.
  5. Plug back in and watch the light go pulsing blue, pulsing green, solid green.

If it stops anywhere on that sequence, note where, and note the exact light. That is what the remote survey asks for, and it is what an engineer needs.

When it is a real fault

Some EO faults are simple. A five flash code on a Mini Pro 2 means the mains supply dipped below 170 volts, and it is often a passing event that clears when you remove the cable. Others are not: two flashes means no earth connection, three flashes means DC leakage was detected, and those need a qualified person, not a reset.

Two things make EO different from other brands right now. There is no manufacturer standing behind it. And for the Mini Pro 2, EO no longer supplies parts. So the honest question after a confirmed fault is whether to repair the unit or replace it, and the age of the charger and the size of the bill decide that. We will give you a straight answer either way.
