What You Lose After March 2026
Two government grants close on 31 March 2026. Between them, they can fund a significant portion of a workplace charging project.
The Workplace Charging Scheme covers up to £350 per chargepoint socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant across all sites. That is up to £14,000 off your installation cost. It is open to businesses, charities, and public sector organisations of all sizes.
The EV Infrastructure Grant for staff and fleets is often the larger saving. It covers up to £350 per chargepoint socket installed and up to £500 per parking space enabled with supporting infrastructure. That includes ducting, cabling, posts, and distribution equipment. It is capped at £15,000 per site, and small to medium sized businesses can apply for up to 5 sites. A business with 3 sites could access up to £45,000 from this grant alone. The Infrastructure Grant is available to SMEs with 249 employees or fewer.
Both grants can be used on the same site, but not the same chargepoints. If using both, the Infrastructure Grant must be claimed first for at least one working chargepoint. The WCS is then used for sockets added afterwards. We manage both applications and the ordering requirements as part of every project.
A single site SME maximising both schemes could access up to £29,000 in combined grant funding. A multi site SME could access significantly more.

Will the Grants Be Extended Again
The government has extended workplace charging grants several times before. The Workplace Charging Scheme has been running since its launch and received multiple deadline extensions, most recently to March 2026. But each extension has come with a clear caveat. The government reserves the right to end or alter the scheme with just 4 weeks notice.
No announcements have been made about funding beyond March 2026. The safest assumption is that the current deadline is final.
The 100% First Year Allowance for EV chargepoint equipment was extended to 31 March 2027 for Corporation Tax and 5 April 2027 for Income Tax in the Autumn Budget 2025. This signals continued government support for EV infrastructure investment. Businesses that miss the grant window can still write off the full cost of charging equipment against tax. But the grants themselves offer a much larger immediate saving that the tax relief alone does not replace.
What to Do Before the Deadline
Start now. The process from enquiry to completed installation takes 6 to 12 weeks for a typical project. That means applications submitted in early February 2026 can still be completed before the deadline, but there is very little room for delays.
Apply for your voucher through the government’s online application service before starting any work. Applications submitted after installation begins are automatically declined. Vouchers are typically issued within 5 working days and are valid for 180 days. The safest approach is to complete installation before 31 March 2026 rather than relying on a voucher issued close to the deadline.
We handle the full grant application as part of every project. Our team submits the paperwork, manages the timeline, and claims the grant on your behalf. You focus on your business. We handle the rest.
