The Grant Landscape, Honestly
The government’s chargepoint money flows three ways, and none of them is a public chargepoint fund for businesses. The Workplace Charging Scheme funds workplace sockets. The residential grants fund flats, renters and on street households. The LEVI programme funds councils building public networks. A hotel wanting chargers purely as public infrastructure buys them at commercial rates like any investment.
The exemption changes the picture for accommodation. OZEV’s own conditions state that for small accommodation businesses, hotels, guest houses, holiday parks, camping grounds, there is no restriction on who uses the parking: guests, visitors, customers, staff. Claim the workplace grant, serve your guests, charge a tariff. All within the rules.
Who Fits Through the Door
The exemption targets accommodation at small business scale, independent hotels, B&Bs, guest houses, parks. Larger groups fall under the standard staff and fleet rule, which still funds the staff car park. If You Do Not Qualify
The maths without any grant still stands up for busy sites. A dual pedestal serving paying sessions at destination rates pays itself down through the tariff margin, and the booking effect does not care who funded the socket. The grant accelerates the case, it does not make it.
