What Affects the Cost
The biggest variable is your existing electrical capacity. If your site can handle the additional load, costs stay at the lower end. If you need a Distribution Network Operator (DNO) upgrade, expect to add £20,000 to £100,000 or more depending on the capacity required.
Other factors include the number of charge points, cable run distances, surface type and whether you need a mix of AC and DC chargers. Most fleets use AC for 80 to 90% of vehicles and only add DC for high utilisation vehicles needing mid shift top ups.

Cost by Fleet Size
A small fleet depot with 5 to 10 vehicles typically costs £15,000 to £50,000 before grants. Medium depots running 10 to 30 vehicles range from £50,000 to £200,000. Large operations with 30 or more vehicles start at £200,000 and can exceed £300,000 when DC rapid chargers and infrastructure upgrades are included.
Civils and electrical works add £1,000 to £5,000 per site for trenching, cabling and distribution boards. These are often the costs covered by the EV Infrastructure Grant.
Grant Funding Reduces Your Cost
The Workplace Charging Scheme covers 75% of the cost per socket, up to £500 each and 40 sockets across all your sites. A typical depot installing 10 charge points receives £5,000 in grant funding.
