Does the Warm Homes Loan Scheme Cover EV Chargers?

TL;DR

Yes, but only as part of a solar or battery installation. The Warm Homes Loan Scheme does not fund a standalone EV charger. Fitted alongside solar panels or a home battery, the charger can sit inside the same loan. The installer must be OZEV approved. If you already took an OZEV grant for that charger, it cannot also go on a WHLS loan.

When the Charger Is Covered

The rule is simple. The Warm Homes Loan Scheme funds low carbon home upgrades like solar and battery storage. An EV charger is eligible only when it forms part of one of those installations.

On its own, a charger is not covered. Fit a home battery or a solar array and add a charger in the same job, and the charger can be financed inside that loan. The installer has to be OZEV approved, which means signed off to fit chargepoints to standard. We are.

The Solar, Battery and Charger Triangle

This is where the scheme fits how we work. Solar has its own borrowing cap of £15,000. Battery storage has a separate £15,000 cap. Fit both and the EV charger rides inside the same install.

That is up to £30,000 of subsidised borrowing across one project, with the charger included. Few installers cover all three. We design, install and support solar, battery storage installation and EV charging together. See our home EV charging service for how the charger side works.

The Prior Grant Rule

One nuance matters. If you already claimed an OZEV grant, or any other public grant, for your chargepoint, that charger cannot also be funded by a Warm Homes Loan. You cannot stack the two on the same unit.

This mostly affects people who fitted a charger earlier under a grant. For a fresh install of solar or battery with a new charger, it is not an issue. We will tell you exactly what applies to your situation.

What to Do Before Lenders Launch

There is nothing to apply for yet. The loans come from FCA regulated lenders, not from evon or the government directly, and no consumer rates have been set. Anyone taking your details for this scheme today is not the scheme.

Get a loan ready quote now. Ours are dated and itemised, with our MCS number and the system size in kW, so your solar, battery and charger project is ready the day lenders launch.

Correct as of 24 July 2026.
