RELATED: Do home batteries qualify for 0% VAT?
How the Two Incentives Fit Together
0% VAT is a tax relief on the invoice. When an installer supplies and fits solar panels or battery storage as one job, the qualifying work is zero rated. There is nothing to claim back. The correct rate appears on your quote from the start.
The Warm Homes Loan Scheme is separate. It is a loan that pays for that invoice, offered by lenders at a lower interest rate than a normal loan. One incentive reduces the price. The other reduces the cost of borrowing the price. They do not clash. You can hold both on the same install.
The Window Where Both Apply
The VAT deadline is fixed. 0% VAT runs until 31 March 2027, after which the rate is set to rise to 5%. In Northern Ireland, different VAT rules apply, so the zero rate does not work the same way there.
The loan scheme is expected to reach the public from around autumn 2026. That leaves roughly a six month window where you could take a subsidised loan and pay 0% VAT on the same install. The VAT saving is certain. The loan is expected, not yet live. Plan around the part that is confirmed.

What Is Confirmed and What Is Not
Be clear on the difference. No consumer interest rates exist yet. Lenders set them after product approval, so we cannot promise a rate. The loans come from FCA regulated lenders, not from evon or the government directly. evon does not offer, arrange or advise on credit.
There is nothing to apply for yet, and anyone collecting applications for this scheme today is not the scheme. What you can do now is lock in the certain part. Book the install to capture 0% VAT, with a loan ready quote so you can add finance the day lenders launch. Our quotes are dated and itemised, with our MCS number and the system size in kW, which is what the scheme rules ask for.
Correct as of 24 July 2026.
