Rapid Chargers for High Turnover Sites
Rapid chargers deliver 50kW to 150kW of power. A driver can add 100 miles of range in around 30 minutes. These suit retail parks, service stations, and tourist attractions where visitors stay 30 to 60 minutes.
DC rapid units use CCS connectors, which are compatible with the vast majority of new EVs sold in the UK. The hardware is more expensive than fast chargers but generates significantly higher revenue per session. A well placed rapid charger can earn between £8,000 and £15,000 per year.
Look for modular designs that allow easy maintenance and future upgrades. OCPP 1.6J compliance is essential for remote monitoring, load management, and integration with payment platforms.
Fast Chargers for Destination Venues
Fast chargers operate at 7kW to 22kW using AC power through Type 2 connectors. A 22kW unit adds around 75 miles of range per hour. These are ideal for leisure centres, shopping centres, hotels, and town centre car parks where visitors stay two hours or longer.
Fast chargers cost less to install and require simpler electrical infrastructure. They suit sites where drivers charge while doing something else. The lower hardware cost also means you can install more units across more parking bays.

What Every Public Charger Must Have
The Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 set minimum standards for all public chargers in the UK. Since November 2024, all new public chargers rated 8kW and above must accept contactless payment. No apps or subscriptions required. Existing rapid chargers (50kW and above) must also comply.
OCPP compliance allows you to manage chargers remotely, publish real time pricing data, and connect to roaming networks so drivers can find and use your chargers through any major app. Pricing must display clearly before charging starts.
Public chargers also need to meet PAS 1899 accessibility standards. This covers wheelchair access, cable management, screen height, and clear signage. We design every installation to meet these requirements from the start.
