What Affects the Timeline
The biggest factor is your existing electrical capacity. Sites with enough power for the planned chargers move quickly. Sites that need a Distribution Network Operator upgrade face longer lead times. DNO basic approvals take 3 to 6 months. New substations or major supply upgrades can add 6 to 24 months in constrained areas.
Other factors include the number of chargers, cable run distances, surface type and whether trenching is needed. Installer availability can also affect scheduling, so locking your installation window early keeps the timeline yours.
The Installation Process
A typical fleet charging project follows this timeline. Initial survey and design takes 1 to 2 weeks. Grant application submission and approval takes 4 to 8 weeks. Procurement and scheduling takes 1 to 2 weeks. Physical installation including cabling, distribution work and charger mounting takes 4 to 8 weeks. Final testing, commissioning and driver training takes 1 to 2 weeks.
For straightforward sites, much of this runs in parallel. Our project managers overlap grant applications with procurement so installation starts as soon as approval comes through.

Planning Around the Grant Deadline
The EV Infrastructure Grant closed on 31 March 2026, so the funding route now is the Workplace Charging Scheme at £500 per socket, open until 31 March 2027. Vouchers carry redemption windows, which is why we sequence the application against a confirmed installation date rather than applying speculatively.
