RELATED: What does an EV charger maintenance visit include?
The market range
UK AC charger maintenance costs roughly £150 to £500 per unit per year. DC rapid units cost considerably more.
That is a wide spread, and the reason is worth understanding before you compare quotes. At the bottom you are usually buying a single annual visit with no response commitment. At the top you are buying scheduled visits, a guaranteed response time, monitoring in between, and engineer labour included rather than billed each time something fails. Both are sold as maintenance.
One thing to watch when you research this. Several of the higher figures circulating are American operating cost benchmarks converted into pounds rather than UK contract prices, so a range that looks authoritative may not describe this market at all.
What actually drives your number
What is actually in the price. This is the first thing to establish, because it decides whether two quotes are comparable at all. A £99 annual service and a £400 contract with a guaranteed response are both called maintenance.
Socket count, not charger count. A dual socket pedestal is one visit and two tests. Pricing that treats it as two chargers is pricing the wrong unit.
Site count. Twenty sockets in one car park is a very different job from twenty sockets across six locations. The travel is the cost, not the testing.
Visit frequency. This is the largest single lever. Annual to monthly is a fourfold difference in attendance before anything else is counted.
Response time. A guaranteed four hour response has to be resourced whether it is called on or not. Best effort costs less because it promises less, and an honest contract says which one you are buying.
AC or DC. The gap in the market figures above is real. DC rapids have power electronics, cooling and far more that can go wrong.
The line item that catches people out
Several contracts in this market charge extra for engineer labour. You buy a maintenance plan, a charger fails, and the visit is billed separately on top.
It is worth asking the question directly of anyone quoting you: is on site engineer labour included in this price, or billed per visit? The answer changes the real annual cost more than the headline rate does.
We include it, and we say so here so you can hold us to it.

What maintenance does not cover
No contract in this market covers everything, and the ones that appear to are usually quiet about the exclusions until you need them.
Replacement hardware and parts are normally charged at cost plus labour. Civil works, vandalism, theft and third party damage sit outside. So do supply faults, which belong to your distribution network operator rather than to any maintainer.
Published exclusions are a good sign, not a bad one. They are the difference between a price you can budget and a price that moves the first time something happens.
Two things that are not available
There is no grant funding for EV charger maintenance work. The active OZEV schemes fund installation, not upkeep.
There is no reduced VAT rate either. Anyone offering you either is describing something else, and it is worth finding out what.
