What Drives the Cost

Battery hardware prices have fallen roughly 40% in the last year at the smaller end of the market, which is why older guides quote much higher figures. The biggest swing factors are not the battery itself. They are the grid connection and the electrical work around it.

Where the Money Actually Goes

Battery cells are only part of the bill. The rest sits in the work that makes the system safe and legal on your site.

Grid connection is the main variable. Most commercial systems need a G99 application to the network operator, though the smallest type tested setups can fall under the simpler G98 route. Any protection studies, switchgear or supply upgrades add cost. Three phase power, common on commercial sites, needs larger inverters than a home setup. Then there is the site work itself, meaning cable runs, mounting, fire protection and where the unit physically sits. Every install is carried out to BS 7671 and the IET Code of Practice for electrical energy storage.
