Ranges reflect cable runs, groundworks and switchgear. The grant covers 75 percent of each socket’s cost up to £2,000, and school installations rarely hit that cap per socket, so in practice the school pays the remaining 25 percent.

Distance is the big one, as it is everywhere. School car parks often sit a long way from the main electrical intake, and trenching across a playground or access road adds civils cost. We route around term time realities too, which is a scheduling matter rather than a cost one.
The good news for schools: most have three phase supplies and generous capacity compared with houses, because kitchens and heating already demand it. That usually means no supply upgrade, and load management handles the lunchtime kitchen peak automatically.
