What Ohme’s warranty actually says
Ohme prints the terms in the product manual, and they are better than most:
- 36 months from the date of installation, on both the Home Pro and the ePod. Ohme’s own FAQ calls it three years as standard. The older Ohme Home carried 36 months from purchase or delivery, and the plug in Ohme Go only 12.
- It covers parts and labour, and Ohme is explicit that this includes labour to repair or replace the unit at the installation site. So it is on site assistance, not “post it back”.
- Ohme will refund, repair or replace at its discretion, using new or refurbished parts, at no charge.
- A replacement unit carries the remainder of the original warranty or 180 days, whichever is longer.
- The manual also states the minimum operational life of the unit exceeds 36 months, which is Ohme’s way of saying the warranty is not the design life.
To claim, Ohme asks you to email its help address with the serial number, and it helps to have the installer’s details. Ohme runs the visit.
What the Ohme warranty does not cover
The usual exclusions, and two that matter for repair:
- Damage or malfunction from abuse, misuse, negligence, accident or not following the instructions, and anything down to fire, flood and the like.
- Cosmetic wear such as discolouration, scratches and dents.
- Any repair, alteration or modification not authorised by Ohme. So inside the three years, do not have anyone open the unit, including us. Use the warranty.
- Anything not caused by a defect in the charging unit. That is the important one, because a lot of “the Ohme is faulty” turns out to be the supply, the earthing, the car or the signal, and none of that is Ohme’s to fix. Ohme’s who to contact guide sends voltage to the DNO, tripping and earthing to the installer, and the car’s charging circuit to the car maker.
What Ohme publishes after three years
No out of warranty repair or spares policy, as far as we can find. Ohme’s help centre and manuals do not set out an out of warranty repair service, a price for one, a spares list, or a policy on independent repairers. The escalation guide covers who to call while things are covered. It is silent on what happens after.
We say that plainly rather than infer a policy. It may exist and be handled case by case through customer care. If you get a written answer from Ohme about an out of warranty unit, we would be glad to see it and update this page.
Who repairs an out of warranty Ohme
Any suitably qualified EV charger engineer. Once the manufacturer’s cover has ended, the unit is a sealed electrical appliance on a dedicated circuit, and the work splits two ways:
Faults in the circuit and supply. A tripping breaker, a failed RCD, a loose termination, a CT clamp that has died, voltage problems, earthing. These were never covered by the product warranty in the first place and they are ordinary electrical work at ordinary prices. In our experience they are the larger share of Ohme call outs.
Faults in the unit. A dead modem or SIM, a screen that has failed, a bar that stays red after every reset. Ohme units are sealed, and the manual makes clear they are not to be opened, with no user serviceable parts, in its words. Realistically an internal fault on an out of warranty Ohme is a replacement, and the honest question is whether to replace like for like or move to something else. We will price both.
The Ohme three year cliff
Ohme sold a great many chargers in 2022 and 2023, which means a lot of them cross the three year line during 2025 and 2026. If yours is close to the line and has been playing up, log it with Ohme now, while it is their problem, and get the visit in writing. That is the single most useful thing on this page.
The warranty is not your only right. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 the charger has to be of satisfactory quality and last a reasonable time, and you have six years in England and Wales (five in Scotland) to bring a claim against whoever sold it to you, not the manufacturer. A claim needs a written fault report that says what failed and why, which is what our visit produces.
