RELATED: What are the best EV chargers for hotels?
What the Programme Involves Now
A participating hotel installs Tesla wall connectors, keeps the bays available and signed, pays for the installation and electricity, and in return appears as a Destination Charger in Tesla’s in car navigation. For sites near touring routes that visibility genuinely drives bookings from Tesla drivers, who plan overnight stops around it.
The catch is in the word Tesla. Wall connectors favour one badge, while your car park serves every badge. And the era of free hardware that built the programme’s reputation is over, current terms are commercial, negotiated, and not a grant.
The Comparison That Matters
An open 7kW chargepoint charges Teslas and everything else, qualifies for the £500 Workplace Charging Scheme voucher that Tesla hardware routes typically do not deliver through us as a package, appears on Zapmap and PlugShare where every EV driver looks, and takes payments from any guest. A Tesla wall connector reaches Tesla’s map. Plenty of larger venues run both, open pedestals for everyone plus a pair of wall connectors for the badge visibility.
For most independent hotels the order is clear: open hardware first, Tesla listing second if the guest mix justifies it.

Getting Listed Either Way
Tesla drivers also use Zapmap and PlugShare, so an open installation listed properly already reaches them. If you want the in car listing too, Tesla’s charging partner channel handles applications, and we can advise on a mixed layout at the survey.
