TL;DR

Yes, on two different schemes. State funded colleges and sixth forms qualify for the education Workplace Charging Scheme at 75 percent up to £2,000 per socket. Universities are not state funded schools in the scheme's terms, so they claim the standard Workplace Charging Scheme instead, 75 percent up to £500 per socket. Both allow 40 sockets and both run until 31 March 2027.

Colleges: The Full Education Rate

A state funded college is treated exactly like a school: £2,000 per socket, 40 sockets, application through Find a Grant with the institution’s reference number. College sites often make the strongest business cases in the sector, bigger car parks, staff and mature students both driving, evening classes that stretch utilisation into public charging hours.

Sixth form colleges qualify the same way. Private training providers generally do not, and fall back to the standard scheme like any business.

Universities: Standard Scheme, Bigger Canvas

Universities claim the standard workplace grant, £500 per socket up to 40 sockets across all sites. On a campus that sounds small, and honestly, against a university estates budget it is. What changes the maths is scale and dwell: thousands of staff parked all day, halls car parks idle in vacations, and visitor parking that can run public tariffs year round.

Campus projects are less about the grant and more about phased infrastructure, cable once, grow sockets over years. The 40 grant funded sockets seed phase one, revenue and demand fund the rest.

One Estate, One Design

Colleges and universities share the multi site problem with academy trusts: several car parks, one estates team, one reporting requirement. The answer is the same, one hardware standard, one platform, per site tariffs, single dashboard. We run that design across education estates of every size, and the survey covers the whole estate in one pass.
